Nine months since the seizure

Nine months ago I was a bus driver who'd never written a line of code. Today I have two apps on Google Play, a hackathon finalist certificate from Brighton, and a blog you're reading. That's the highlight reel. Here's the honest version.

The apps work. I'm proud of them. Almost nobody has found them yet — because building, it turns out, was the easy half. Nobody downloads an app they've never heard of, and I know as much about marketing today as I knew about coding last October.

So that's the next mountain: learning to tell people about what I've made, as publicly and honestly as I learned to make it. Still trying to get users for SniffCheck and Toolwise — this blog should help.

So far this month: putting the finishing touches to this blog and the website. And getting out there — on 2 July I went to the Norwich Tech for Good meetup, hosted by Isabelle Amazon-Brown, and on the 15th the Norwich Stripe community coworking event, hosted by Kieran Ball.

Meanwhile Salon — the exhibition app born from a conversation with my mum — is in pre-testing. One more thing quietly moving forward.

I'm not going to pretend I know how this ends. Maybe the apps find their users. Maybe Salon becomes the real thing. Maybe it's something I haven't thought of yet.
